Emerging from Pittsburgh's vibrant DIY music scene in 2024, forty winks is forging a distinct path in contemporary rock. Combining intricate mathy riffs with sharp, zoomed production, they cultivate a dynamic and noisy sound that pushes the boundaries of modern guitar music on their debut EP.
The group formed quickly, meeting through other bands, school, and mutual relationships. After practicing through the early months of 2024, they went to Kyu's apartment and threw down what would be their first EP in a matter of hours.
Love Is a Dog From Hell, the debut EP from forty winks, was released in May 2025. The band celebrated the release with a DIY show in Pittsburgh and then followed that up with a week-long East Coast run in July, hitting WKDU and WNYU for radio sessions along the way.
The EP was celebrated locally, nationally, and internationally with critical acclaim from Pitchfork, The Guardian, Bandcamp, Spotify, and Apple Music. It has been a triumphant debut to say the least. The band is now hibernating as they prepare for LP1, putting the pieces together for what may be another striking arrangement of guitar music.
