The Zells are a 5-piece rock band from Pittsburgh that finds common ground in 90’s garage rock, slacker pop, and the DIY spirit. Their debut record, Failure to Slide, was released in September 2018 via Crafted Sounds. They shared their follow-up EP No More Heroes in early October 2019. It features a more lo-fi sound as well as a new writing direction for the band. All 5 members contribute original songs, providing for an eclectic yet cohesive sound. The EP was mastered by RJ Gordon of Baked (Exploding in Sound) at Reich Studios.
They have shared the stage with notable national and international touring acts like Palehound, Kississippi, Crumb, Sharkmuffin, Camp Howard, Great Grandpa, Baked, Bethlehem Steel, Spirit of the Beehive, Paws, LVL UP, Caroline Rose, Grace Vonderkuhn, Absinthe Father, and The Nude Party.
The Zells deliver a high energy, “can’t help but dance” live performance that they have showcased regionally. Tour outings have included a week-long northeast run with Howardian (Ian Vanek of Japanther) in November of 2017, a 9-day east coast tour with Philly band Buster in September of 2018, and a 4-day tour with Pittsburgh indie hip-hop duo BBGuns in March 2019. Two more weekend runs accompanied the release of No More Heroes.
